In August 2026, subscribers encountered the Luna Moths.
Deep in the Birdmoss Forest, there is a glade which the locals call “The Place Where Ghosts are Born.” Luna Moth Caterpillars live high in the Trees, growing plump on the abundant foliage. At some point, the Caterpillars feel compelled to take a few last nibbles and then begin a slow pilgrimage down a Tree trunk, inelegantly climbing to reach the Forest floor. Here, each selects a fallen leaf and begins spinning a shroud-like cocoon.
When they emerge again, their bodies have been reorganized into a ghostly form. Their new, pale wings are rumpled and damp. It takes a day for their wings to dry and harden so they may take flight. But how quickly, how lightly they move now! When several flutter into the heavens together, it seems that the woods are filled with Spirits. And the Moths are the closest thing to Spirits, weaving back and forth through the Veil to listen to the murmurs of ancestors. For a week or so, they’ll live an in-between life.
In gaining wings, they have lost their voices and their ability to eat. Craving a final connection, they seek mates; but, voiceless, their call is a scent. And afterwards, as the Moon wanes away, it feels natural to cross the Veil to stay.
The Luna Moths Box includes an abundance of beautiful objects; hints and additions to expand the story; a mysterious document; and a lore card.
Some items are available for individual purchase.
- Mysterious Document
- An instructional document is augmented with marginalia which will help you interpret clues. It is available only in the Luna Moths.
- Lore Card
- The Luna Moths is introduced in a full-color collectible 4x6 inch lore card. The artwork for this month's lore card was created by Joanna Rzepecka, a Warsaw, Poland-based illustrator. She says, "My work is inspired by biodiversity, mainly animals. Through my work, I'm trying to capture moments where nature is untouched by humans. Peaceful scenery, colors, and rough textures are some things that I enjoy the most."
- Light-Thrower
- There will be times when you need the cleansing power of the Sun, but feel too susceptible to stand beneath its strong, bleaching heat. Learn to reflect, carry, and throw the Sun’s light so it reaches dark spaces in its gentlest form. Hang this suncatcher in a window – preferably southern-facing – to throw little rainbows into troubled corners of your home. It’s been quickened with amethyst to assist with your abilities related to control and direction.
- Luna Moth Marks
- Luna Moths emerge from their cocoons in the morning, soft and damp. Their wings dry and grow stronger in the sunlight so they may take flight when night falls. Quicken your body with these marks, then charge yourself in the sun to carry their glow into the night.
- Secret-Keeper
- Luna Moths are known to slip through the veil, carrying messages and secrets from side to side. The Foxes prescribe these “Moth pods” for individuals who may be weakened by their secrets. Hide and protect your most vulnerable parts within your seedpod: whisper your burdens to it or stash a tiny signifier charm inside. You can always retrieve it again when you’re ready.
- Calming Stones
- In Birdmoss, amazonite is used to evoke truth, courage, and tranquility. These small stones have been quickened with the steam of jasmine-scented green tea. Night-blooming jasmine, associated with the midnight Moon, is similarly calming and also promotes receptiveness to new information and wisdom. Together, they can help you release your inner discord.
- Powerful Geometry
- Now: you’ve brought sunlight into your dark corners and used it to adorn your body. You have unhanded some of your secrets. You have received calming stones that were quickened with jasmine. hus prepared, you are ready to stretch and flex your abilities using this mandala-style crystal grid. Think upon your heart’s desire; think about what you need most. What aggravation, if removed, would allow you to heal? What change will allow you to Dream powerfully and freely? Place your largest piece of amazonite (or a crystal from your own collection) in the center of the board. Then, surround it with additional stones to create a shape such as a swirl, a web, or an arrow. Set each one down with intention, pondering the remedy you need. Then use your finger to trace a path among them all to activate them.

Calming Stones
- Exhausted but giddy from your work, you pause to breathe. Some relief is already seeping into your tensed shoulders. The Crows have sent you one more remedy: a book from the Museum of Recollections. When you open it, you realize it contains something more vibrant than the printed page: a miniscule moonlit place populated by Luna Moths and night-blooming jasmine. Take it with you when you return to your own world. Open it when you need to re-experience the magic of the Moths.
