In April 2023, subscribers met the Dragonflies.

In this city of waterways, the main gathering spot is a sunlit lagoon which reflects the blazing blue sky. Branching from it, the canals are an unmappable tangle of turns and dead ends. They are so narrow that the boats must be propelled by poles rather than oars. Here, the water is shaded by the aging buildings that slump, shoulder to shoulder.

Only the Dragonflies are unhesitating as they navigate the canals. They know the spots where gaps and alleyways allow shafts of light to illuminate the blue-green water. As the years pass by, the city grows emptier; and its palaces more waterlogged and pale. But every generation of Dragonflies emerges sparkling and vigorous. They bask on creaking household docks, telling stories that recall
the city’s marvelous past.

The Dragonflies box includes an abundance of beautiful objects; hints and additions to expand the story; a mysterious document; and a lore card.

Some items are available for individual purchase.

  • Mysterious Document
    • An instructional document is augmented with marginalia which will help you interpret clues.  It is available only in the Dragonflies Box.

    • Lore Card
      • The Dragonflies are introduced in a full-color collectible 4x6 inch lore card.  The artwork for this month's lore card was created by Joanna Rzepecka, a Warsaw, Poland-based illustrator. She says, "My work is inspired by biodiversity, mainly animals. Through my work, I'm trying to capture moments where nature is untouched by humans. Peaceful scenery, colors, and rough textures are some things that I enjoy the most."

    • A Dip In The Lagoon
      • Prepare to Dream to the lagoon by immersing yourself in a quickened bath. Your effervescent bath soak is scented with blood orange, jasmine, and sea lily flowers, evoking the blue-green lagoon. Quicken it with an intention before adding it to your bathwater.

    • Colorful Beads
      • You find a gondola decorated with a strand of colorful beads, and you know it has been marked for you. Your beads have been quickened in the noon-hour sun. Wrap them around your wrist to carry sunshine with you, even when you travel through shadows. You choose a canal to explore.

    • Dragonfly Trio
      • You push your boat through cool shadows, listening to the water lap at the houses' foundations. You turn a corner and see a beam of sunlight beaming upon a mooring. Three drowsing dragonflies wake up to greet you. They guide you back into the shadows, towards a crumbling palace.

    • Friend At The Window
      • A dragonfly knocks at the window. Her iridescent wings cast rainbows across the shadowy interior of the palace. She motions at you to climbs upward, towards the rooftop garden. (Peel the backing from your suncatcher cling and smooth it on a brightly-lit window so it can work its prismatic magic.)

    • Wing-Like Shell
      • You climb several grand staircases to reach the roof and emerge into a garden shimmering in the sunlight. You are surrounded by blooming plants, breeze-blown bells, and trays of pebbles and shells. You spot an iridescent piece of shell that resembles a Dragonfly wing. When you hold it, you feel its connection to the salty water of the lagoon.

    • Lotus Seed Pod
      • As you continue to explore the trays, and tables, you find an unusual seed pod. It is fibrous, light, and full of unsettling holes. You know that you are meant to take it to the freshwater inlet to the lagoon. You place it in the water and watch it float.

Plant pictured in photos is not included.

This was a wonderful addition to my trinkets, I loved this box! I still have one of the metal dragonflies in my succulent and I’ve worn the beaded bracelet to death. The lotus seed pod and iridescent shell fit just perfectly onto my self of oddities and the window hang gives me just enough sparkle to my room. Though, I have yet to use the bath soak but it smells divine.
