In June 2026, subscribers encountered the Waterfall.
The old stories say that the Harpies were brought to the Waterfall by their dewy-skinned sister. Here, they bathed away their itches and regrets. They floated in the opal waters, easing the knots in their shoulders and thighs. They drank until their parched throats softened. The Waterfall balks at no one’s harsh voice or ragged feathers. Every ripple and drop of this water is quickened with a tremendous, unapologetic love. This place is tended by water nymphs and ancient guardians who are careful stewards of its healing magic.
The Waterfall is particularly beautiful during the summer months, when sunbeams cast rainbows in its fine mist. In hot weather, its cool water is refreshing rather than chilly; and the surrounding woods are generous with berries.
The Waterfall Box includes an abundance of beautiful objects; hints and additions to expand the story; a mysterious document; and a lore card.
Some items are available for individual purchase.
- Mysterious Document
- An instructional document is augmented with marginalia which will help you interpret clues. It is available only in the Waterfall.
- Lore Card
- The Waterfall is introduced in a full-color collectible 4x6 inch lore card. The artwork for this month's lore card was created by Joanna Rzepecka, a Warsaw, Poland-based illustrator. She says, "My work is inspired by biodiversity, mainly animals. Through my work, I'm trying to capture moments where nature is untouched by humans. Peaceful scenery, colors, and rough textures are some things that I enjoy the most."
- Verity Glass
- As you approach the Waterfall, you find a triangular piece of crystal-clear glass. You hold it to your eye. Peering through one of its sides mirrors the world, but flipped, like a projection in a camera obscura. Keep looking through it and turn it to see the true scene surrounding you: a world filled with colors and light. Everyone and everything has a rainbow-gilded edge. Every creature glows with the love they give, with the love they receive. Even the heavens send love; catch a sunbeam with your prism and its light is translated into a dazzling spectrum of color.
- Instrument of Iris
- The rainbow-clad Iris (she who runs across the water without wetting her feet) has left a writing tool for you. Draw a line while rotating it in your hand to watch the colors change. Use it to write love notes, make optimistic plans, sketch your dreams, list your joys.
- Mist of the Waterfall
- Now that you’ve reached the Waterfall, the gentle breeze anoints you with a cool mist. Spray yourself on hot days to help clarify your mind and refresh your skin. You can summon the love of this place in stressful moments: close your eyes and picture the Waterfall. Take a deep breath and hold it for seven seconds before releasing it.
- Purse of Potions
- The Foxes (and other creatures) gather water from this pool for healing potions. Use your little bottles to charge Moon water, to create curiosity displays, or to curate herbs and spices for your travels. The water-tight vials fit neatly in your pouch.
- Dowsing Rods
- The gateways between Birdmoss and your world are difficult to spot. You travel here by Dreaming rather than by road. Only the Crows know the places where the two skies knit together. The waterways also connect in unexpected way. Use these copper tools to trace the path the water takes from one world to the other in order to find your way home.
Photo props are not included.
