In February 2026, subscribers encountered the Spirit Bear.
The stories say that, into a family of Brown Bears, the Spirit Bear was born. Her fur was pale, the color of freshly-split wood. When she was young, she often seemed distracted, as if part of her lived elsewhere. When daydreaming, her eyes opened wide, watching a world that was invisible to the other Bears.
In many ways, the Spirit Bear lives a mundane life of fishing and marking trails. She meanders through the Forest, looking, from a distance, like a cloud amongst the Trees. A pearly fog follows behind her, enveloping the trunks and branches in diaphanous mist. Sometimes she doubles back into the fog. It is a liminal place where the air glows like a moonstone. Within the vapors, sound is distorted by echoing ravines, and by lapping water.
Some creatures worry about losing their way in the mist; but the Spirit Bear finds comfort in its blankness. It makes her visions clearer, as if the images are projected onto a dove-colored canvas.
The Spirit Bear Box includes an abundance of beautiful objects; hints and additions to expand the story; a mysterious document; and a lore card.
Some items are available for individual purchase.
- Mysterious Document
- An instructional document is augmented with marginalia which will help you interpret clues. It is available only in the Spirit Bear.
- Lore Card
- The Spirit Bear is introduced in a full-color collectible 4x6 inch lore card. The artwork for this month's lore card was created by Joanna Rzepecka, a Warsaw, Poland-based illustrator. She says, "My work is inspired by biodiversity, mainly animals. Through my work, I'm trying to capture moments where nature is untouched by humans. Peaceful scenery, colors, and rough textures are some things that I enjoy the most."
- Figure of a Bear – Carved Stone Sculpture
- The Spirit Bear uses small figures to serve as wards and trail markers. She has placed this small gemstone bear on the riverbank to serve as a beacon. It guided your arrival. It also helps her emerge from the fog after a visionary session.
- Comb Honey Rite – Portion of Honeycomb
- Honeycomb is the rawest, purest form of honey; the amber-colored liquid is still encapsulated in its beeswax cells. The Spirit Bear takes a small bite and ruminates as she prepares to cross into the fog. The honey gives her energy for the session ahead. Because it reminds her of the generosity of the world around her, it also supports a receptive and positive frame of mind. Add a bit of comb honey to warm toast or serve it alongside a cheese board. Or, chew on a bite while preparing yourself for any challenge.
- Bear Talisman – Engraved Wooden Pendant
- The Spirit Bear gives you an engraved wooden round, similar in color to her own coat. Wear this necklace to safely accompany her into the fog. It will connect you to her so you will not lose your way, even in the murkiest of situations.
- Ceromancy Supplies - Wax Divination Kit
- While meandering in the fog, the Spirit Bear reads the images that are revealed in the mist and in the water. Your bowl and candle allow you to also look for messages in the water. After lighting the candle, allow its wax to drip into a bowl of cool water. Examine the shapes formed by the wax for insight. (Always use appropriate safety measures and never leave a burning candle unattended.)
- Warming Nourishment – Orzo Soup
- When the Spirit Bear finally returns to the beacon on the riverbank, her fur is beaded with moisture and her eyes are tired. She encourages you to replenish your energy stores after seeking visions and insight. This soup will help you recover and re-integrate into the world. The Foxes often prescribe turmeric for its warming properties and to shore up a positive, active outlook.
