Pearl Oyster - Home Discovery Experience

With this discovery experience, you'll open oysters to reveal lustrous real pearls – in the comfort of your own home.

You'll receive one preserved, vacuum-packed oyster containing a pearl for you to find. Each pearl is natural and one of a kind, just like a fingerprint. Your pearl may range in color from pale pink to lavender to dark gray. Pearl sizes range from about 6mm to 9mm.  Occasionally a single oyster will reveal two pearls.

You'll need a butter knife, a bowl of water, and a second bowl of water with a little bit of dish soap added. I also recommend wearing gloves. Here's how to discover your pearl:

1. Remove the oyster from its plastic packaging.
2. Gently rub the soft edges of the shell to find the small opening where the two shell halves meet.
3. Insert a butter knife into the opening, and twist it until the two shell halves separate.
4. Feel the tissue inside to locate your pearl.  Remember to check it again, just in case there's a second pearl!
5. Clean your pearl in the soapy water and then rinse it thoroughly with clean water.
