These attractive Frogs are handmade in Indonesia by a fair-trade artisan cooperative. The artisans have used traditional carving techniques on an unusual type of wood. The Frogs are made from "parasite wood," or benalu, a dense mushroom-like growth created when aerial mistletoe embeds itself in the bark of jempinis trees. Benalu is considered a type of wood in its own right.
I find these Frogs so interesting (their unique poses and expressions!) and I am fascinated by the unusual texture of the benalu wood. I especially enjoy flipping each sculpture over to look at the base, which features striations resembling mushroom gills.
Each is one-of-a-kind and incorporates natural variances in the wood. Exact sizes vary, but most range from 4" to 6".
This frog is absolutely gorgeous. I was really surprised when I saw all the beautiful detail in it. He is sitting here on the arm of my chair and we are discussing the very hot weather(100) today. He’s glad to be inside with me. Thanks Shannon for another amazing treasure.
This is so cool! Very interesting piece for my collection. Love that it's made from a natural item.
The frog is adorable and the "gills" on the bottom are fascinating!
This is such a unique and darling carved frog from a tree parasite! It’s really cool and is a perfect addition to my woodsy collection.
I'm not sure what I was expecting, maybe in my head it was going to be smaller than it actually is, but the minute I unwrapped him from his purple packing paper all I could think was, "He's perfect! Absolutely perfect." The way the sculpture sits makes it look like he's about to jump right off the self. I'm so glad I ordered it.
I love my frog, its interesting the wood its carved out of, very cute, fast shipping, I'm always very happy with all the items I've purchased, Thank You, Blessings Always 🙏❤️🫂🐦
