The path of leaves leads you to a maple tree.  You lie beneath it and look up at the sky filtered through its branches.  The light is different today, filtering through the trees at a novel angle. The trees have already noticed the different in the light.  Their leaves are losing chlorophyll and turning fiery.  Resting here, it seems as though the tree is changing colors before your eyes.

You will receive a kit containing instructions, a plastic tray, a pouch of tiny white crystals, and two sheets of cardstock cut into trees.

Instructions:

  1. Pour the crystals into a small bowl or ramekin.  Add about an ounce of warm water to the dish, and stir contents until the crystals are fully dissolved.
  2. Pour the mixture from Step 1 into the plastic tray.
  3. Assemble the tree, and carefully insert it into the slots in the center of the tray.  The thin cardstock will start to absorb the mixture, and the trunk and branches of the tree will darken.
  4. Place the tree on your desk or in a windowsill.  After a few hours, crystals will start to form on the branches of the tree.

The color, size, and texture of the crystals will vary depending on the light, temperature, and humidity near your tree.  Over the course of a few days, crystals will fall off the branches to mimic autumn leaves.

The Flame-Colored Maple Tree - Crystal-Growing Kit was featured in the special limited-edition Fall Festival Box (September 2026).
