You knock on the door to the hut and Stormswift invites you inside. As your eyes adjust to the dim interior, you see that the walls are lined with provisions and supplies: bunches of herbs, bottles of jewel-toned preserves, jars of wild rice and dried mushrooms. Stormswift offers you a jar of dried shiitake mushrooms. Add them to your pantry or your altar.
These dried shiitake mushrooms (Lentinula edodes) were wild harvested in the forests of Bulgaria. To rehydrate for recipes, place your sliced shiitakes in a bowl and gently rinse with cool water to remove any potential dirt and forest matter. Once rinsed, submerge sliced shiitakes in water, vegetable stock, chicken stock, wine or other liquid for half an hour or until soft. You'll receive about half a cup of mushrooms in a bamboo-topped glass jar.
