The gateways between Birdmoss and your world are difficult to spot. You travel here by Dreaming rather than by road. Only the Crows know the places where the two skies knit together. The waterways also connect in unexpected ways. Use these copper tools to trace the path the water takes from one world to the other in order to find your way home.

Your Dowsing Rods are about 9 inches long.  They are made of copper because it is lightweight, non-magnetic, and highly conductive.

Dowsing Rods are traditional divination tools which can be used to follow the path of water, or to seek answers to the questions which puzzle you.  To use your Rods, you will need to determine their language.  Begin by determining the movements which will mean "yes" and "no" by asking a series of simple questions while pacing a path.  Hold the short sides of the rods loosely in your hands so they can swing freely.  Hold your question in your mind and wait for the rods to swivel, point, or cross.  Use your intuition to determine the meaning of these movements.

If your Rods become tarnished, you can clean them by buffing them with a towel, or gently rubbing them with a paste of lemon juice or vinegar and salt.  Make sure to rinse and dry them thoroughly.  Or, simply enjoy their natural patina.  You can choose to reshape the copper so it feels correct in your hands.  You can also strengthen these tools by augmenting them with beads, or wrapping them in quickened thread.

Dowsing Rods were featured in the Waterfall Box (June 2026).
