Your vial contains stone, soil, and moss from the Forest. They have been quickened by moonlight. By focusing your attention on this sampling, you may recapture the feeling of peace and wonder you experience when Dreaming into the Forest at any time.
Caring for your moss: Your Moss from the Forest (Dicranum scoparium or Windswept Broom Moss) is dried and dormant but very much alive. To rehydrate it, cover it in filtered or spring water for a day, then pour off the excess water and tamp down the moss securely in its jar. Keep the jar open for the first few days; then you can choose whether to keep it open or closed. If you keep your vial closed, it will need a sprinkling of water only once every month or so. If you keep it open, water it weekly or as needed to keep the soil moist. It does best in medium shade but can tolerate some partial sunlight.
Less than two inches tall, this terrarium is a perfect scaled-down semi-closed system. Perch it in a window, display it on your desk, or carry it with you as a charm.
