The Owls have developed systems for bone-reading: recognizing portents in the patterns and shapes of individual bones as well as casting sets. They maintain a supply of their own pellets to consult with questions.

You receive a kit which includes a large Owl pellet, tweezers, brush, and a glass jar to display your finds. Your pellet contains dozens of tiny bones from creatures such as mice and shrews.  The photo shows a partially-dissected pellet and all the bones we found inside.

It is good practice to wear gloves when working with Owl pellets; if you are allergic to animal fur, you may want to wear a mask. Use the tools to carefully pick away the felt-like compressed fur and feathers from the delicate bones. You can also immerse the pellet in water to soften it. After dissecting the pellet, soak the bones in a mild dish detergent solution to remove any traces of grease and then rinse (a strainer can be helpful for this process). If you'd like to whiten the bones, soak them overnight in a hydrogen peroxide solution (3% USP diluted with an equal amount of water) and then rinse them.

Owl Pellet Dissection Kit was featured in the limited-edition Box of Curiosities.  Bowl in photos is not included.

Shipping:  Single items and non-box products ship for a flat rate of $7.00.  Non-subscription products usually ship within 3 business days of purchase.

I am sure not everybody’s cup of tea. But I found three whole tiny skulls, as well as a whole bunch of other little bones. It was great fun, and I’m going to buy 3 more for my weird friends.
